BRATTLEBORO — Rock Voices, the area's only community rock choir, will present a concert at Centre Congregational Church, 193 Main St., on Friday, July 31, at 7 p.m. Doors open at 6 p.m.
Concert organizers describe the event as “a summer fun evening of rock and pop classics like you've never heard them before.”
The community choir's program - a tribute to rock bands from the 1960s and 1970s who recorded hits in California - will include tunes by the Beach Boys; Crosby, Stills & Nash; Steely Dan; the Eagles; Janis Joplin; Jackson Browne; Jefferson Airplane; the Byrds; the Grateful Dead, and others.
Director Tony Lechner's arrangements will be sung by a 100-plus-voice choir, backed up by a professional four-piece band whose musicians all have local roots: Ross Bellenoit (guitar), Joe Whalen (bass), Carrie Ferguson (keyboards), and Dave Tallarida (drums).
Rock Voices “represents the best of southern Vermont and the greater Pioneer Valley: a sense of community, a love of music, and a desire to share their joy and talents with others,” the concert's organizers write.
According to its website, Rock Voices' mission is “to help everyday people find their voices,” including people who don't know how to read music, in a “safe and supportive” environment.
Anyone age 18 or older is welcome. The regional choir rehearses in Brattleboro, Northampton and Hadley, Mass., and West Hartford, Conn.
