BRATTLEBORO — Girls on the Run Vermont presents its annual Southern Vermont 5K Run/Walk on Saturday, May 17, at 10 a.m. at Brattleboro Union High School.
This celebratory event is the culmination of GOTRVT's 10-week after-school program for girls in grades 3-8, and is open to anyone wishing to participate in - or just enjoy as a spectator.
Proceeds benefit the scholarship fund at Girls on the Run Vermont, a non-profit organization now in its 15th year that works to inspire girls to develop in every healthful regard physically, emotionally, and socially.
This interactive, educational program, delivered by more than 700 volunteer coaches across Vermont, fosters self esteem, teamwork, compassion, and community.
This year, Girls on the Run Vermont, along with Girls on Track for girls in grades 6-8, say they expect to reach 3,000 girls at more than 140 schools statewide.
Registration is $10 for children, $20 for adults, and $40 for a household of three or more. Girls in the GOTRVT program are already registered for the 5K event.
Registration at www.girlsontherunvermont.org ends midnight on May 15. You can also download a registration form from that site, complete it, and mail it to 22 Browne Court, Suite 103B, Brattleboro, VT 05301. That registration must be postmarked by May 11.
Registration on the day of the event is at 8:30 to 9:30 a.m., cash or check only. The adult fee will be $5 more.
Organizers say the first 100 members of the public who register, regardless of method, will receive a GOTR 5K T-shirt.
Volunteers are needed to help with the event at the start and finish lines, at water stops, and along the course. Individuals, families, and groups - school clubs, sports teams, and others - can sign up in advance to volunteer.
