FairPoint Communications has announced that it will expand its broadband coverage to more than 265 homes and businesses in Putney, and more than 120 homes and businesses in Halifax and Whitingham.
The company's new fiber-based, high-capacity network will reach customers along all or part of the following roads in Putney: Abenaki Ridge, Aplin Way, Bellows Falls Road, Brook Road, Cemetery Road, Cox Road, Earls Way, East Putney Brook Road, East Putney Falls Road, Gassett Road, Meetinghouse Lane, Mic-Mac Trail, Mill Brook Road, Old Ledge Road, Old Stage Road, Pierce Road, Quarry Road, River Road South, Robling Drive, South Pine Banks Road, Stockwell Drive, Town Line Road, Turner Trail, and Wardon Road.
In Halifax, service will be expanded to the following roads: Cannon Road, Collins Road, Hall Road, Hanson Road, Hatch School Road, Peterson Lane, Pike Road, Shearer Hill Road, Sutherland Lane, Wheeler Road, and Winchester Road.
In Whitingham, Collins Road, Gates Pond Road, and Hamilton Tavern Lane will see expanded service.
FairPoint says it invested nearly $100 million in its network in Vermont and added 1,100 miles of new fiber, providing high-speed access to 90 percent of its Vermont service areas with residential speed options up to 15 Mbps (megabits per second).
The Halifax and Whitingham expansions were funded in part by the Federal Communications Commission's Connect America Fund, or CAF, established in 2011 with the sole purpose to accelerate broadband buildout to the 18 million Americans living in rural areas who currently have no access to robust broadband services.
