Last Night to offer New Year’s Eve fun

BRATTLEBORO — Once again, the town's Last Night Committee has planned what organizers describe as “a fun-filled, substance-free day of celebration” for New Year's Eve.

The day kicks off with a senior potluck luncheon at the Brattleboro Senior Center from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. This year's featured guest is Wayne Billard, otherwise known as “Gin Mill Bill.”

From 1 until 4 p.m., folks can have sleigh and hay rides at Fair Winds Farm at 511 Upper Dummerston Rd. Tickets are $6 for adults, and $4 for children up to age 12.

For evening entertainment, a free Youth Celebration and Dance Party at the Boys & Girls Club on Flat Street begins at 7 p.m. and runs until 12:30 a.m., with games, food, the countdown frenzy, and more.

Free skating will take place at Living Memorial Park from 6 to 9 p.m. with door prizes and hot chocolate.

The children's program this year again features the Annies at a new time - 4 to 5 p.m. - at the Brattleboro Retreat's Educational Conference Center. Just bring a non-perishable food item as admission to the performance, plus a New Year's countdown after the show.

And again this year, the traditional concert featuring The Amidons and Nightingale, rounds out the evening's entertainment at the First Baptist Church on Main Street from 7 to 9 p.m. Tickets are $7, and children 6 and younger are admitted free.

After the concert, families can head to the Brattleboro Retreat's warming tent from 9 to 9:45 p.m. for hot beverages and munchies to enjoy while watching a fireworks display at 9:30 p.m. over the Retreat Meadows.
