BRATTLEBORO-More than 90 poems from 47 poets are up in shop and restaurant windows downtown as part of "Poems Around Town," an annual celebration of poetry during April, National Poetry Month. The display of poems will be up throughout April and for the first Gallery Walk of the season in May.
For the first time, Poems Around Town has posted copies of selected poems at Canal Street locations. Poems are primarily by Brattleboro area poets, but poets from the tri-state area and throughout Vermont were invited through an open call to submit.
On Saturday, April 19, from 2 to 4 p.m. at Brooks Memorial Library, a group of 16 poets from Poems Around Town will give short readings of their work, including their poem(s) on display downtown. A smaller, second reading featuring poets whose poems are at Canal Street locations will be held at ByWay Books on Canal Street on Wednesday, April 30, at 4 p.m.
Poems Around Town is organized by Write Action. All displayed poems and their locations may be found in "Site Guide" flyers that are distributed at various locations downtown, such as the Brattleboro Food Co-Op, Everyone's Books, and Tavernier Chocolates.
