Volunteers provide free tax preparation

BRATTLEBORO-Beginning in early February and continuing through mid-April, AARP Foundation is providing free tax assistance and preparation through its Tax-Aide program in Brattleboro.

AARP Foundation Tax-Aide is a volunteer-based free tax preparation service. Volunteers are trained and IRS-certified every year to ensure they understand the latest changes to the U.S. Tax Code.

Two sites are available: The Brattleboro Senior Center, 207 Main St., will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Thursdays, beginning Feb. 6. Call 802-257-7570 to schedule an appointment. The Brattleboro VFW, 40 Black Mountain Rd., will be open 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Mondays, beginning Feb. 3. Call 802-689-9639 to schedule an appointment.

Help is available to complete tax filing for clients, or to assist them in filing their own. Taxpayers can choose Tax-Aide's traditional in-person service, or a drop-off service. Assistance will also be available for filing Vermont Homestead Declaration, Property Tax Credit, and Renter Credit claims.

For more information about AARP Foundation Tax-Aide, including the range of services and documents required to file taxes, visit aarpfoundation.org/taxaide or call 888-227-7669.
