The Governor's Institutes of Vermont (GIV) has just opened applications for the 2025 offerings of their residential summer programs. Vermont ninth, 10th, and 11th grade students are invited to apply.
GIV Institutes take place on Vermont college campuses and give their attendees the opportunity to dive deep into a topic of interest for an intensive 1–2 weeks. Each Institute is focused around a career-oriented topic. Courses on offer this year are Arts, Engineering, Entrepreneurship, Global Issues & Youth Action, Health & Medicine, Mathematical Sciences, and Technology & Design.
Additionally they will offer an Institute on Weather & Climate Science, investigating Vermont's recent flooding and how to predict and communicate our changing weather.
At GIV, students learn from industry professionals, participate in hands-on projects, and explore career options, "all while having fun and making friends," say program coordinators. These programs are designed to be affordable to all Vermont families with scholarships that allow students to pay as little as $10 to attend.
GIV has served more than 13,500 Vermonters over 41 years, and looks forward to welcoming over 600 young people in the summer of 2025.
The Governor's Institutes of Vermont is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that welcomes business sponsorships and individual donations to help fund GIV's efforts to deliver high-quality programming to all interested Vermont students, regardless of their family's finances. More than 75% of GIV students need financial assistance each year.
