BRATTLEBORO-Vermont Center for Photography (VCP) will host an artist talk featuring Adeline Praud, a talented and innovative photographer based in Nantes, France, known for her thought-provoking work that often tackles challenging subject matter, on Sunday, Jan. 19, from 4 to 5:30 p.m.
This event offers an intimate opportunity to explore the artist's creative process, discuss her work, and engage in a Q&A session. It is being held in conjunction with Praud's current solo exhibition "A War On Us," which opened Jan. 3 at VCP.
Praud's series of photographs examines the opioid epidemic as part of a broader system of inequality, criminalization, and social injustice. Focusing on Vermont, the work highlights how communities are confronting the crisis through support systems like rehab and therapy.
The artist explores questions of resilience, healing, and the political forces that shape addiction, aiming to show that substance use disorder is not just an individual issue but a consequence of systemic failure.
This talk is part of VCP's ongoing Artist Talk series, which aims to connect local audiences with contemporary artists and foster conversations around photography as an art form. Praud's work has been exhibited internationally, and she brings a unique perspective to her exploration of visual narratives. During the talk, she will share insights into her artistic journey and her approach to the photographic medium.
The artist talk is free and open to all. Attendees will also have the chance to view Praud's work on display at VCP during the event. The exhibition itself, titled "A War On Us" will be on display in VCP's Main Gallery through March 2. For more information, visit vcphoto.org.
