BRATTLEBORO-On Nov. 8, 9, and 10, more than 100 circus artists, students, a traveling circus company, performing alumni, guest coaches, and circus enthusiasts will travel from across the country to Circus Workshop Weekend (CWW), hosted by the New England Center for Circus Arts (NECCA). This festival of circus classes, performances, and community gatherings celebrates coming together around this noncompetitive art form.
Circus enthusiasts can purchase tickets to three shows over the weekend at NECCA's Trapezium on Putney Road. Guest company Acrobatic Conundrum from Seattle performs their new show "Circus of Second Chances" on Friday, Nov. 8, at 8 p.m. This performance is a homecoming for company member Melissa Knowles who graduated from NECCA's Professional Training program in 2010.
Professional graduates returning from Cirque du Soleil, 7 Fingers, and beyond will perform in the fourth annual Alumni Cabaret, Saturday at 7:30 and 9 p.m.
In addition, classes will take place Friday through Sunday. The community gathering-a family-friendly, all-ages event-will take place on Saturday, Nov. 9, from 12:45 to 3:15 p.m. at Retreat Farm's North Barn. The "Under The Barn Roof" (aka Under the Big Top) circus sampler includes activities and mini-performances.
On Sunday at 7 p.m., the community is invited to attend BETA night, an open mic–style event giving the stage to experimental and creative acts following a prompt to create.
