Valley Village to hold fundraising walk on Sept. 14
TOWNSHEND - Valley Village (formerly Valley Cares) will host its third annual fundraising walk at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 14. The rain date is Sept. 15.
The walk will follow woodland trails and country roads starting at Valley Village, 461 Grafton Rd. From there, it heads down Grafton Road to the elementary school, then onto the woodland trail through the forest to Ober Hill Road, and finally back to Grafton Road, completing a loop that ends at Valley Village. The entire route is just under 1.5 miles and is easy to moderate, with some narrow paths, uneven footing, and slight climbs.
For those who prefer a more accessible option, Valley Village will also offer a stroll around the community garden in the center of their property. One lap around the garden's sidewalk is approximately 300 feet, or the length of a football field.
Register at Valley Village or at bit.ly/781-walk. The cost is $20 per participant, $25 on the day of the event. Valley Village residents may participate for free. Participants will receive an event T-shirt, and morning refreshments will be provided.

Tri Town Collectors host summer wrap-up show
BRATTLEBORO - The Tri Town Collectors Club hosts its free summer wrap-up show on Saturday, Sept. 14, at the Holiday Inn Express on Chickering Drive from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The show features comic books, coins, paper money, vintage to modern sports cards, Pokémon, postage stamps, postcards, and other collectibles. Organizers say many dealers and collectors from the tri-state area will be participating in the club's donation program, giving away many collectibles such as donated coins, stamps, and comic books.

Deer Run Nature Preserve opens Shagbark Trail
WEST DUMMERSTON - Join the Deer Run Nature Preserve in celebrating the opening of their recently completed Shagbark Trail on Saturday, Sept. 14, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. (rain date is Sept. 15).
Meet at the trailhead at 940 Camp Arden Rd. for this 3.4 mile hike with trail builder Roger Haydock. The 0.9 mile trail splits off from the main Deer Run Trail, 0.8 of a mile from the Deer Run parking lot on Camp Arden Road.
The Shagbark Trail features a hemlock grove, a dry oak-hickory forest, a hophornbeam savannah, a forest hardwood grove with both bitternut and shagbark hickory, plus maidenhair ferns and a dramatic cliff.
Hikers of varying abilities are all welcome; those who feel they may not be up for the entire hike may turn back when they feel it's necessary, and volunteers will guide them on a leisurely walk back to the parking lot, looking at all the plants and animal signs and listening to the birds along the way. Athens Brick Meetinghouse hosts quilt show
ATHENS - The Athens Brick Meetinghouse Committee, in conjunction with the Athens Historic Preservation Society, will host a quilt show at the 1817 Brick Meetinghouse on Route 35 on Saturday, Sept. 14, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The historic Meetinghouse will be adorned with many quilts draped over the sanctuary pews. Guests may cast a vote to select the Visitors Choice Quilt. Raffle tickets will be on sale for a variety of prizes. All proceeds go to the preservation and restoration of the Meetinghouse. Brattleboro on Wheels show at Retreat Farm
BRATTLEBORO - The 10th annual Brattleboro on Wheels car show and cruise-in, presented by the Brattleboro Rotary Club, will be held on Saturday, Sept. 14, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., at Retreat Farm on Route 30. Admission to the show grounds is free for both cars and spectators. Donations are appreciated.
All makes and models of classic cars and motorcycles are welcome at the show and an assortment of new cars from local dealerships will also be on display. All proceeds from the show will support local Rotary gift-giving projects in the community.

Music at Union Hall features three duos on Sept. 14

Breeze Verdant- all seasoned performers and creators - are coming together to swap songs, styles, and rhythms for a late summer evening of music for all on the Newfane Common, or in Newfane's Union Hall in case of rain. Tool Time with Master Gardener Cindy Twombly at Brooks Library
BRATTLEBORO - Cindy Twombly, a Master Gardener for 20 years, will discuss favorite, efficient garden hand tools from 6:30 to 8 p.m., on Monday, Sept. 16, in the Community Meeting Room of Brooks Memorial Library, 224 Main St.
Twombly will demonstrate some of her favorite hand tools. Attendees are invited to bring one or two of their favorites to show as well. Tools from the library's Field to Fork toolshed will also be featured. Garden tools from the toolshed are available for loan to all Brooks cardholders, thanks to a grant from the Vermont Foodbank. Action Corps talks about U.S./Saudi War on Yemen in Brooks Library program
BRATTLEBORO - On Wednesday, Sept. 18, at 7 p.m. at Brooks Memorial Library, 224 Main St., Isaac Evans-Frantz and Neda Saleh from Action Corps will discuss how their organization mobilized a coalition that achieved the bipartisan passage of a bill in Congress to end the U.S. and Saudi war on Yemen.
The group brought together Yemeni-Americans, peace activists, and NGOs, which together achieved this result for the U.S. peace movement. An audience Q&A will follow the presentation.
