PUTNEY-Landmark College's Board of Trustees has appointed James Dlugos as interim president of the College, effective July 13.
"Jim has had an esteemed career in higher education, most recently as president of St. Joseph's College in Maine," Barbara Epifanio, chair of the Landmark College Board of Trustees, said in a news release.
Epifanio led an interim search process conducted through AGB Search. "Jim's leadership at St. Joseph's included the development of academic programs for neurodivergent learners, which is at the heart of Landmark College's mission," she said.
Dlugos had an 11-year tenure as president of St. Joseph's College, an institution of approximately 2,000 students located in Standish, Maine. In addition to overseeing the development of programs for neurodivergent students, Dlugos has extensive experience in online education.
"LC Online is one of Landmark College's robust and growing areas, and includes online degree programs for undergraduates, high school dual enrollment, and a post-baccalaureate certificate for educators," Epifanio said. "Jim's experience in this area will be important as we look to sustain and grow our LC Online offerings."
Prior to his time at St. Joseph's, Dlugos served as academic vice president of the College of St. Elizabeth in Morristown, New Jersey; and prior to that, he held administrative and faculty roles (including academic vice president) at Washington and Jefferson College in Washington, Pennsylvania.
John Kemmerer, vice-chair of Landmark College's Board of Trustees, pointed out other aspects of Dlugos's leadership that impressed the board.
"Jim has extensive experience in assembling institutional budgets and has enjoyed great success in fundraising, fostering community relations, and supervising capital upgrades, which are important areas for Landmark's interim president to focus on this year," Kemmerer said.
Dlugos's appointment is effective upon the departure of Peter Eden, who served as Landmark College's president since 2011 and who begins his tenure as president of Franklin Pierce University on July 15. Landmark College's Board of Trustees will appoint a presidential search committee this fall and expects to name the College's fifth president in 2025.
