Second week at Yellow Barn features children’s concert, open rehersals

PUTNEY-Yellow Barn's season continues with concerts at 7:30 p.m., Thursday through Saturday, plus a special children's concert at 11:45 a.m. on Thursday, July 18. Also this week, violinist Donald Weilerstein will give his annual masterclass at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 20.

All events take place at the Big Barn on Main Street in Putney.

This summer Yellow Barn is introducing several programs to bring audiences and musicians together. On Saturdays at 6:30 p.m. on the Big Barn patio, Artistic Director Seth Knopp hosts "Patio Noise," a pre-concert conversation with guest musicians. Sometimes looking ahead to performances, and sometimes looking back at what has been heard, these informal gatherings are an opportunity to ask questions and delve deeper into Yellow Barn performances.

Thursday nights are free at Yellow Barn, a lasting tribute to Eva Mondon, a beloved Putney resident and advocate.

In addition this year, Thursdays are "side-by-side" nights. All musicians attend every concert, and usually, they sit in their own musicians' loft, a tradition that dates back to the original Yellow Barn performance barn. (Many audience members remember legs dangling from the loft above their heads!)

On Thursday nights, a number of Yellow Barn musicians will sit among audience members on the floor, and audience members will have the opportunity to sit in the musicians' loft, giving listeners a chance to experience the performance from a different perspective, and with different listening companions.

Additionally, Yellow Barn is introducing open rehearsals this year. Those who are interested in attending a few rehearsals in advance of a performance are invited to send a request to Yellow Barn, yellowbarn.org.

⁽¹⁾All concerts take place in the Big Barn, an accessible, 75-seat concert hall with comfortable seating and air conditioning. Ice cream and blueberries are served at intermission, just as they have been since Yellow Barn's founding in 1969. For tickets and information, call 802-387-6637.
