Texas singer-songwriter returns to Grafton

GRAFTON-Back by popular demand, Texas singer-songwriter Al Staehely will appear for one night only at the Grafton Community Church, 55 Main St., on Saturday, June 29, beginning at 7 p.m.

In his only Vermont appearance, Staehely will perform original songs from his latest album, (1)Somewhere In West Texas and other compositions. He appeared in Grafton at the Community Church last fall in a benefit concert for the church.

Staehely's musical career began in his native Austin, Texas, in the late 1960s as part of a locally popular band called The Fabulous Chevelles. After graduating from law school in Austin, he decided to try his luck as a musician in Los Angeles. Moving there, he soon found a position as one-fourth of the 1970s supergroup, Spirit.

Following his time with Spirit, Staehely played with a number of other groups, touring Europe with the Gravenites/Cipollina Band, playing with Chuck Berry and many more. Staehely's compositions have been recorded by numerous artists, including Keith Moon (The Who: covering "Crazy Like A Fox") and Marty Balin (The Jefferson Starship: covering "Mercy Of The Moon.")

After returning to Texas and a career as an entertainment lawyer, Staehely has continued to perform, compose tunes, and write lyrics.

Tickets are $25 and are available for purchase at MKT: Grafton, 162 Main St., or at the door on the night of the performance, beginning at 6 p.m.
