BRATTLEBORO — The Brattleboro Music Center and the Chamber Music Society of Detroit's CameraMusic Series to present a special livestream concert by violinist/conductor Jaime Laredo and cellist Sharon Robinson on Saturday, May 30.
The concert will start at 8 p.m. at chambermusicdetroit.org/laredo-robinson. An interview will air at 7:30 p.m.
This performance, recorded at the Brattleboro Music Center on May 18, includes Handel/Halvorsen's Passacaglia for Violin and Cello; Mozart's Duo for Violin and Cello, after KV 423 in G major; Erwin Schulhoff's Duo for Violin and Cello; and Andy Stein's “Tango,” from Suite for Two for Violin and 'Cello.
For over 40 years, Bolivian-born violinist Jaime Laredo and American cellist Sharon Robinson have made joyous and sophisticated music, both separately and together, earning them devoted fans worldwide.
Locally, Laredo and Robinson, who live part-time in Guilford, are rooted in southern Vermont, both as BMC artistic advisors and neighbors.
The duo - “probably the foremost husband-wife team in concert music,” the Minneapolis Star-Tribune wrote in 1994 - have long been a champion of new works.
In addition to the recent André Previn Double Concerto, Laredo and Robinson have premiered and recorded double concertos by Richard Danielpour, Daron Hagen, David Ludwig, Ned Rorem, and Ellen Zwilich. They bring a fresh approach to violin-cello duos by Ravel, Handel-Halvorsen, Schulhoff, Mozart, and Kodály.
The husband-wife team is among the busiest and most respected musicians in the world: as solo artists, as the Laredo-Robinson Duo, and as members of the Kalichstein-Laredo-Robinson Trio with pianist Joseph Kalichstein. In 2012, Laredo and Robinson joined the faculty of the Cleveland Institute of Music.
