BRATTLEBORO — The Brattleboro Sunrise and Noontime Rotary Clubs have joined forces to host the fourth annual “Chuck for Charity” Rotary Disc Golf Tournament on Sunday, Oct. 13, at Living Memorial Park at 1 p.m., with check-in and tee assignment at noon.
Pre-registration is requested online at www.tinyurl.com/chuck4charity4 to allow for grouping players. Standard registration is $20 per person and includes play in the tournament, a custom tournament disc, and a cookout after the tournament, with burgers, dogs, and vegan options provided by MamaSezz.
“We wanted to give the players the opportunity to share in the real fun of Rotary - giving locally to those in need, doing great work,” said Josh Traeger, Sunrise Rotarian and tournament co-coordinator, in a news release.
Beginning in the fall of 2016 and continuing until the spring of 2018, the Brattleboro Noon and Sunrise Rotary Clubs, in collaboration with the Brattleboro Recreation & Parks Department, created an 18-hole disc golf course at Living Memorial Park.
The course provides three levels of play (child, novice, and advanced), high-quality disc golf target baskets, and small signs to describe each fairway and point the way to the next tee pads for each hole. The course also includes a new kiosk with course sign and scorecards. New this year, professional-grade tee pads have been installed for the advanced players.
The two Rotary Clubs organized workdays to create the fairways in the woods of Living Memorial Park. More than 40 Rotarians and 35 disc golf players have participated in course creation and clean-up efforts to date, offering more than 2,500 hours of volunteer service.
Recreation & Parks staff contributed time overseeing the effort and assisting in the creation of the tee pads and fairways. The course now covers over 5,000 feet in length of fairways with 2,000 feet in paths through the fields and forest regions of the park.
Prizes for the advanced division include portable disc targets and disc bags. Prizes for the Recreational grouping will be discs and gift certificates. The Chuck for Charity provides the winners with the opportunity to designate $200 in funds to the charity of their choice, from a list of Rotary-supported charities.
