PUTNEY — Next Stage Arts Project presents jazz musical artist Greg Piccolo as part of the Shades of Blue series on Friday, April 5, at 7:30 p.m.
Greg Piccolo first made a name for himself as a founding member of the multi-Grammy Award nominated group Roomful Of Blues, which also included guitarist Duke Robillard. For more than 24 years, he toured the world with the group.
Piccolo has since been a major contributor to the blues, jazz, and R&B music scene for more than five decades. He has played on more than 50 recordings by major artists, including The Fabulous Thunderbirds, Jimmie Vaughan, Pat Benatar, Ronnie Earl, Lou Ann Barton, Colin James, John Mooney, Earl King, and more.
In recent years, Piccolo toured as a member of Jimmie Vaughan's Tilt a Whirl Band and performed at Eric Clapton's Crossroads Music Festival at Madison Square Garden in New York City. He appears in the film and DVD of that festival.
Piccolo is also a harmonica player, guitarist, vocalist, and songwriter, and for years has led his own group, Heavy Juice, while remaining an in-demand sideman and session player. Heavy Juice cut two well-received albums for Fantasy Records, Acid Blue and Red Lights.
His most recent recording, Who Did This?, is a tribute to the ballad, dripping with the late night romance and sensuality that only a wailing saxophone can invoke.
