Disputing the statistics of THC increase in pot

JACKSONVILLE — The reason kids don't listen to adults is because they spout off statistics that are completely false, like this one: “Prior to the 1980s, the potency of THC in most marijuana hovered around 1.37 percent. Now, potency of THC is almost 30 percent,” a quote attributed to Hanako Jones.

First off, yes, the quality and potency of pot has increased a lot, mainly due to the fact that it isn't being smuggled in from cartels in Colombia anymore; since the 1970s, THC in pot has increased by about 67 percent.

That means that in the '70s pot had around 9 percent THC, not 1.37 percent; also back then, by the time the consumer got their hands on the plant it was already damaged and old, breaking down some of the THC.

Who knows what types of contamination happened as well? With legal cannabis, we can set quality standards and dose recommendations.

Kurt White said, “There's a certain population that's going to be hurt by this [new law].” He must not recognize everyone who has been hurt from the plant being illegal from those in jail for possession, including the kids.
