Good day to you, southeastern denizens of the Green Mountain State! We are certainly being forced to endure a persistent humid, showery and thundery pattern for this summer of 2018.
What began earlier on in the season as a building drought situation has quickly swung to the other end of the spectrum with way more moisture than required, or wanted, in our neck of the woods.
While I think we will see more in the way of sunshine over the next seven days, we will again be dealing with periods of showers and thunderstorms, especially for Friday and Saturday.
There is a signal that by the middle or end of next week we could get some legitimately dry air to change out this soupy air mass. Until then, it is a mushroom forager's dream world. Having said that, let's jump into the details!
For Wednesday and Thursday, we will be watching our most recent in a string of slow-moving, upper level low pressure systems ambling off to our east, and putting a temporary end to the south-to-north train of showers, downpours and thunderstorms that have been lambasting our region.
While a couple of weak disturbances will move through to the north of southern Vermont Wednesday and Thursday, we should get away with just some isolated showers and thunderstorms each day, with the best chance for an all-dry day being Wednesday.
Humidity will continue to be high, and we can expect high temperatures to reach the low to mid 80s each day, with low temperatures in the low to mid 60s each night.
By Friday, we'll have a stronger impulse and trough moving in from the Great Lakes region. This will foster instability, decent wind shear aloft, and increasing moisture at the surface.
As such, a more southerly, moist flow will develop (again!), and produce scattered showers, downpours and thunderstorms Friday, Friday night and Saturday with highs either side of 80 degrees, and lows in the mid 60s with continued high humidity.
A ridge of high pressure will follow this trough into our region and produce some fair weather for Sunday and Monday with highs near 80 degrees and lows near 60 degrees, but humidity will persist.
It appears sometime about Tuesday night into Wednesday another disturbance will move through with more showers and storms before we get a chance to really dry out by later next week. Here's hoping! Have a great week!
