BRATTLEBORO — Construction at the Central Fire Station, the third and final piece in the town's police and fire facilities project, is close to completion, Town Manager Peter B. Elwell reported at the Dec. 19 regular Selectboard meeting.
Workers are “almost finished with that,” with just a few items on “the punch list” remaining, said Elwell, who noted his “next report will likely be the last.”
Elwell noted “overall, the [fire department] employees are happy with the space. It's much more functional for them.”
All three projects - the Central and West Brattleboro fire stations, and the new police facility - came in under budget, leaving the town with $263,606.91 in uncommitted funds.
Once the fire station is finished, Elwell and his staff will meet with the Police-Fire Facilities Building Committee and bring their recommendations to the Selectboard on what to do with the money.
Proposed items include a carport and a roof replacement at the new police station at 62 Black Mountain Rd.
The Brattleboro Fire Department will hold a ribbon cutting at the renovated and expanded Central Fire Station on Elliot Street on Friday, Jan. 19, at 3 p.m., with an open house continuing until 7 p.m.
The public is invited to attend, Elwell said.
