DUMMERSTON — The Selectboard unanimously voted to appoint Maria Glabach as interim Board member at the Oct. 25 meeting.
Almost exactly a year prior, on Oct. 26, 2016, Glabach was appointed as Selectboard Assistant.
Glabach fills the Selectboard seat vacated by her late husband, Steve Glabach, who died on Oct. 6. He was one year into a three-year Selectboard term, and had served on the Board since March 2012.
Maria Glabach's term will end at the 2018 Town Meeting, where, if she chooses, she can run for a regular Selectboard seat.
At the Oct. 25 meeting, Selectboard member Joe Cook pointed out the Board received letters from six qualified candidates.
“We're most fortunate that was the case,” he said.
Board member Hugh Worden said he was surprised to get so much interest “from very good people who all participate” in municipal committees and commissions.
“Very recently, Maria Glabach expressed an interest,” Cook said, and she “brings a lot of experience budget-wise, and experience working with the Board. In her own way, she can carry out Steve's legacy.”
“Maria has served us well,” said Board member Jerelyn Wilson, and noted that appointing her is “the smoothest transition.”
After the vote, Selectboard Chair Zeke Goodband invited Maria Glabach to sit at the table with the other Board members, who joined Goodband in welcoming her.
