Early voting begins for Act 46 ballot question
BRATTLEBORO - Early/absentee ballots for the Brattleboro Town School District special meeting on Nov. 7 are now available in the Brattleboro town clerk's office for those registered to vote in Brattleboro.
If you are registered to vote in Dummerston, Guilford, or Putney, contact your town clerk for details. Anyone wishing to vote prior to Nov. 7 may apply for an early/absentee ballot until 5 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 6.
Early/absentee ballots may be voted in person in the clerk's office, mailed to the voter by the clerk's office, picked up by the voter, or delivered to the voter's residence by two justices of the peace. All voted ballots must be received by the clerk before the polls close on Election Day in order to be counted. For more information or to request an early/absentee ballot, call 802-251-8157.

There is no deadline to register to vote. You will be able to register to vote on the day of the election. You can register early by visiting the town clerk's office or going online to olvr.sec.state.vt.us.
If you are unsure if your name is listed as a registered voter, or for more information about voter registration and early/absentee voting, contact the town clerk's office at 802-251-8157. Office hours are 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. The office will be closed Election Day.
Voting on Nov. 7 will be held in the Selectboard Meeting Room of the Municipal Center at 230 Main St. Polling hours are 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Transition Dummerston looks at weatherization
DUMMERSTON - Transition Dummerston will hold its monthly potluck on Friday, Oct. 27, from 6 to 8:30 p.m., in the Dummerston Congregational Church basement in Dummerston Center.
The program will be “Button-up, Weatherize for Winter,” to familiarize everyone with how to prepare for winter and make homes more energy efficient. The program will include information from a variety of local energy experts.
The potluck will begin at 6 p.m., and the program will go from 7 to 8:30 p.m. All are welcome. Questions? Contact [email protected]. BF Woman's Club hosts food sale
BELLOWS FALLS - The Bellows Falls Woman's Club will hold a food and baked goods sale on Saturday, Oct. 28, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Walpole, N.H., Middle School.
The event will be held in conjunction with the Walpole Library's annual book sale. Pies, breads, cookies, and squares, soups, baked beans, and more will be offered. All proceeds will benefit the club's high school scholarship fund.
Celebrate holes made by man and by nature
WESTMINSTER WEST - The Windmill Hill Pinnacle Association is offering a special hike on Saturday, Oct. 28, from 1 to 4 p.m.
The walk to the Ober Hill Gorge and Old Homestead Cellar Hole will feature the newly acquired Brelsford property, which added almost 33 acres of conserved woodland to the northern end of the Windmill Ridge Reserve. This walk is a great way to be among the first to visit some of the interesting features of the property.
Starting at the Bemis Hill Road trailhead, the walk will proceed mostly downhill through rich mixed hardwoods to the long gorge, with its gurgling stream and charming waterfalls, continue on to the homestead complex with remains of stonewall paddocks and a barn, and then end by going north on the trail to the Route 35 trailhead area.
Bring water, snacks, and clothing appropriate for the weather, which can be chilly in late October. A car shuttle will be arranged to return participants to cars parked at the starting place on Bemis Hill Road, so pre-registration is a must by contacting Camilla Roberts at 802-869-1388 or [email protected].
Deerfield Valley Players return to stage with cabaret
WILMINGTON - The Deerfield Valley Players, a local community theater group which presented Broadway musicals from 1997-2007 in Memorial Hall in Wilmington, will perform a cabaret of songs from several of those shows on Saturday, Oct. 28, at 7:30 p.m.
Featured will be selections from Pippin, Guys and Dolls, Fiddler on the Roof, Annie Get Your Gun, Into the Woods, Man of La Mancha, and several others.
Admission is free. The performance will take place in Memorial Hall, 14 West Main St., Wilmington.
Osher Lectures continue at new site
BRATTLEBORO - The Brattleboro Chapter of the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute will hold the fifth in its current series of morning and afternoon lectures on Monday, Oct. 30, at the New England Youth Theatre, 100 Flat St.
In the morning lecture, Seth Harter, a teacher of Asian Studies and history at Marlboro College, will discuss Japanese ceramics. In the afternoon session, Lynne Kennedy will discuss her historical mystery novels.
The Osher Lectures are held on six successive Mondays. Morning lectures run from 10 a.m. to noon; afternoon lectures, from 1 to 3 p.m. All lectures are held at NEYT. Parking and handicapped access are available, and light refreshments are served at the lectures.

Horribles Parade in Brattleboro
BRATTLEBORO - The Brattleboro Recreation and Parks Department is pleased to announce the Annual Horribles Parade, which will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 31, at 6 p.m.
All “Ghosts, Goblins, Witches, Scarecrows, and What-Have-Yous” should meet down in the Brattleboro Food Co-op Parking lot on the Whetstone Pathway by 6 p.m. Please park in the public lots/garage on Flat Street. The parade will begin at 6 p.m. sharp and will go up Main Street to the Gibson-Aiken Center for costume judging, prizes, goodie bags, and more.

New hours for Brattleboro History Center
BRATTLEBORO - The Brattleboro Historical Society's History Center, located inside the Masonic Lodge at 196 Main St., has changed its hours for the fall and winter.
The center will now be open on Fridays and Saturdays, from noon to 2 p.m.
Sunrise Rotary Club begins annual dinner raffle
BRATTLEBORO - The Brattleboro Sunrise Rotary Club is now selling tickets for their annual dinner raffle to raise funds for Project Feed the Thousands and other Rotary projects.
This year's first prize is five $100 gift certificates to the following Brattleboro area restaurants: Duo, Whetstone Station, Panda North, Echo, and Peter Havens.
Second prize is a $100 gift certificate to The Marina restaurant, and third prize is a $50 gift certificate to the Vermont Country Deli.
Tickets can be purchased for $5 each or a package of five for $20, and are available through any Brattleboro Sunrise Rotarian or by contacting either Jason (802-380-0848) or Toni (802-254-0047).
Members of the public can also purchase tickets on Wednesday mornings, from 7:15 a.m. to 8:30 a.m., at the American Legion Post 5 in Brattleboro during the Brattleboro Sunrise Rotary Club's weekly meeting. The raffle drawing will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 6.
