GUILFORD — Twenty-nine neighbors from Guilford and Vernon recently gathered to discuss issues and values they hold in common in this troubling, tumultuous political time and to begin organizing to effect much-needed change.
The lively conversation naturally raised both local grassroots and national concerns. Anyone interested was invited and did join in, including Progressives, Democrats, Independents, and disaffected Republicans.
The success of this community meeting will be followed up by another, tentatively scheduled for late October and will focus on one of the issues identified.
The Guilford Democratic Committee, which initiated the meeting, is very grateful for the hospitality of the Broad Brook Grange; the Guilford Country Store, where our planning meetings for this event were held; and for Sara Coffey and Richard Davis' help in publicizing it. The food, donated by several friends in the community, was much enjoyed.
The meeting ended with the reorganization of the Guilford Democratic Party committee and plans to have a similar formal, legal caucus to organize the party in Vernon soon.
The purpose of the GDC is to organize community and civic efforts, seek local input on issues of importance, and then pass that input on to the Windham County and Vermont Democratic Party committees and appropriate elected officials.
Anyone interested in joining us will be welcome.
