Entergy awards $15,000 to Project Feed
VERNON - Entergy Charitable Foundation awarded a $15,000 grant to Groundworks Collaborative Food Shelf toward the 2016 fundraising goal of Project Feed the Thousands.
“Vermont Yankee employees have a special relationship with Groundworks Collaborative Food Shelf,” Vermont Yankee Decommissioning Director Jack Boyle said in a news release. “Over the past decade, Entergy, through both grant funding and volunteer labor, has helped the Drop-In Center increase its ability to address community needs.”
Since Entergy purchased Vermont Yankee in 2002, it has given Groundworks' Drop-In Center and Food Shelf more than $300,000 in corporate grants.
Lead paint safety courses offered
BRATTLEBORO - Three Essential Maintenance Practices courses on lead-safe renovation will be offered by Lead Safe Homes in collaboration with the Vermont Housing and Conservation Board and the Vermont Department of Health.
The courses will be offered free of charge from 5 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 19, and Tuesday, March 28, at Brattleboro Memorial Hospital. Vermont law requires that all landlords, property managers, contractors and daycare facility owners follow these practices to maintain painted surfaces in properties built before 1978.
Participants will learn about the requirements of state and federal regulations governing lead, the health effects of lead in children and adults, lead-safe work practices, and how to protect themselves from liability.

Conference on nonprofit development, fundraising offered at Marlboro Grad Center
BRATTLEBORO - A one-day conference around development and fundraising as a career and a hiring option for nonprofit organizations will be held on Jan. 31 at the Marlboro College Graduate Center, 28 Vernon St.
This conference is jointly sponsored by the Association of Fundraising Professionals-Northern New England and Marlboro College Center for New Leadership.
During the next several decades, a large cohort of experienced fundraisers will retire. This one-day conference tackles the issue, bringing upcoming fundraising professionals together with organizations considering expanding their development teams.
This conference is for you if:
• Your organization suffers from high employee turnover, or trouble defining positions, hiring, or managing and developing employees.
• You are a student considering a career in development.
• You currently work in fundraising and seek to position yourself for growth.
