Good day to you, residents of the windy hamlet in southeastern Vermont! I hope we're all enjoying this healthy dose of rain, because we sure need it. Granted, the drought is worse where I reside down in western Massachusetts, but we're all hurting for more rain, so luckily we've got some to put a light dent in the drought.
As far as our sensible weather is concerned for Wednesday, another low pressure system will push east-northeast into the Ohio Valley and eventually make a beeline right for southwestern New England. This system looks to include some subtropical moisture, and it will be juicy to say the least. After the soaking of Tuesday, we'll get another dose starting late Wednesday morning, which should become steady by afternoon and into the evening. Winds should be light with highs in the mid to upper 40s, and lows near 40 degrees.
For Thursday, showers should continue in the morning, but then let up and quit by noon or so. We should even see some sunny breaks or a period of partly sunny skies before sunset, with an increasing west wind, and highs again in the mid to upper 40s. Lows will land near the freezing mark.
Thereafter, a shortwave or series of shortwaves should move north of us, drawing in colder air through the weekend and possibly kicking up some light showers of rain or snow, although it should be mainly dry through the weekend. Expect partly cloudy to partly sunny skies, with highs near 40 Friday, and in the mid to upper 30s Saturday into Tuesday. Lows will be firmly in the 20s.
By early next week, there are signals that we could get a winter storm in here, with snow and mixed precipitation possible. However, confidence is low at this time. Confidence is higher for us to experience colder temperatures overall in December, and a continued active pattern, so keep an eye to the skies. Have a great week!
