Guilford choir seeks singers for holiday program

GUILFORD — The Guilford Chamber Singers are seeking new members for the 44th Christmas at Christ Church program on Dec. 16 and 17. This annual event includes vocal music, instrumental interludes by the Guilford Chamber Players, a holiday story read by Don McLean, and a few carols with everyone.

The a cappella Guilford Chamber Singers have been growing under the directorship of Tom Baehr, now in his fifth year with the group.

“This is a well-balanced, mixed choir of enthusiastic singers,” Baehr said in a news release. “They put their hearts and musical talents into a broad mix of sacred and secular repertoire. Although auditions are not required, we expect some vocal experience, and the ability to read music, while welcome, is not required.”

This year's program concentrates on music from the British Isles, with selections from Ireland, Wales, and England, and covers a span of four centuries. Included are a few traditional English carols, a part-song by Joseph Barnby, and contemporary works based on British folk songs.

“All former Guilford Chamber Singers are welcome to join us,” Baehr says. “Christ Church is an acoustically perfect setting for these performances.”
