Deerfield Valley artists open their studios

Bright yellow signs will appear along Vermont's roads this weekend, guiding visitors to the studios of 108 craftspeople and fine artists across Vermont during the fifth annual Vermont Fall Open Studio Weekend tour on Oct. 3 and 4.

Presented by the Vermont Crafts Council, Vermont Fall Open Studio Weekend is a statewide celebration of the visual arts and creative process and offers a unique opportunity for visitors to meet a wide variety of artists and craftspeople in their studios.

In the Deerfield Valley region, four artists in Readsboro and Wilmington will offer the chance to meet and talk, view their work, watch demonstrations, and purchase Vermont-made art and crafts.

Visitors can find their way to the studios by following the bright yellow signs or by using the Vermont Open Studio Tour Guide Maps. These are available free on-line at www.vermontcrafts.com, at the Southern Vermont Deerfield Valley Chamber of Commerce, and at local businesses.

In the Deerfield Valley, the following studios in Readsboro and Wilmington will welcome the public to their studios:

• Studio #43 Readsboro Glassworks. Mary Angus and K. William LeQuier of Readsboro Glassworks have been creating hand blown glass and glass sculpture in their Readsboro studio since 1983. Both artists work together in the glass studio they built in a 100-year-old mill building in the village center, each creating their own distinctive work.

LeQuier's complex glass sculptures are both powerful and fluid, capturing the harmonious and erratic forces found in nature, while Angus creates exquisite blown glass vessels with graceful forms and soft colors. Glassblowing demonstrations will be ongoing throughout the weekend with hand blown glass by Angus and glass sculpture by LeQuier on display and for sale.

Readsboro Glassworks is located at 6954 Main St. (Route 100). Contact them at 802-423-7706, www.maryangusglass.com and www.kwilliamlequier.com.

• Studio #44 Eric Sprenger Fine Woodwork. Eric Sprenger has been creating original contemporary furniture and furnishings for over 30 years. These uniquely sculpted pieces have been exhibited in galleries nationally and internationally.

He will be demonstrating and displaying his beautiful woodwork in his studio at 72 Castle Hill Road in Wilmington. He can be reached at 802-464-8392 or www.ericsprenger.com.
