NEWFANE — West River Valley Veterinary Service in Newfane will host a tenth anniversary open house celebration on Saturday, Aug. 22, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at its clinic on Route 30.
Numerous events are planned for the day, including free medical laser therapy demonstrations, a pet dental check-up event, pet photos, a check-the-chip microchip event, and a drawing for free blood screenings, microchips, and flea and tick preventatives. The prizes awarded in the drawing range in value from $30 to $65.
The veterinary clinic, owned by Dr. Heidi Winot, has recently added medical laser therapy to the services they offer. Medical laser therapy can be used to help with pain and inflammation associated with arthritis, hip dysplasia, and spinal disc disease, and accelerates the healing process of wounds, hot spots, and post-operative procedures, according to a news release.
To introduce pet owners to medical laser therapy and how it can help their pets, there will be demonstrations throughout the day with West River Valley Vet Service patients who are currently receiving therapy.
At the check-the-chip microchip event pet owners can have their pet's microchip scanned for free and ensure that it is registered and up to date. Many people do not realize that microchip registrations may need to be renewed every year. Many pets adopted through shelters already have microchips, but lack current contact information for the owner. This makes it harder to identify the owners if the pet is lost.
Pets who do not currently have a microchip can sign up for a microchip at a reduced rate during the open house event.
The pet dental check-up event will provide pets with free dental grading by a dental technician and a coupon towards a future dental cleaning at West River Valley Veterinary Service, as well as free samples of pet dental products for each participating pet.
Also part of the celebration will be The Yankee Dog, providing training demonstrations; Core Photography, providing pet photos; Collie Rescue League of New England; Tails of Vermont; and The Uncommon Dog, which will be selling hot dogs.
Free cake and ice cream will also be part of the celebration.
