BRATTLEBORO — The Brattleboro Union High School Class of 1965 gathered for their 50th Reunion Marathon Weekend on June 19, 20, and 21.
The weekend officially kicked off with a “meet and greet” on Friday evening at the Elks Lodge. An extensive buffet was catered by David Follensbee and his crew.
Good weather provided a backdrop for the Saturday morning dedication of the class gift, a granite bench, situated in the newly created “Colonel's Den,” eating and gathering area near the football field. The bench inscribed on one side “ln honor of our 50th Reunion Class of 1965.” The other side is marked with “In Memory of Mr. Fitzgerald, Class Advisor.” Members of the Fitzgerald family were in attendance.
The dedication was followed by a tour of the BUHS facility with principal Steve Perrin.
A dinner and dance was held Saturday night at the VFW, followed by a photo session and the singing of the BUHS school song. The dance was shared with the Alumni Association, music provided by the band, Shakin' All Over.
The weekend ended back at The Elks for a late morning brunch, cooked and served by classmates.
In attendance were 98 classmates (about half of the surviving members) and 52 guests from as far away as California and Oregon. The Class of '65 thanks Elks Lodge 1499 and VFW Post 1034 for providing and catering the event.
