BRATTLEBORO — The Brattleboro Area Drop In Center has announced that the Emergency Winter Shelter, which operates in the First Baptist Church downtown on Main Street, will close for the season on April 30.
Over the course of this season, the shelter has provided a warm place to stay for 173 unduplicated individuals, hosting a nightly average of 25 people.
Most of the people who use the Emergency Winter Shelter's services are homeless. With the closing of the shelter, these homeless individuals will be faced with the task of finding a safe space to inhabit.
Each year, the Brattleboro Area Drop In Center hosts a tent and sleeping bag collection drive, which provides homeless individuals with the supplies they need to live outdoors.
The Brattleboro Area Drop In Center is grateful to everyone who volunteered their time to help operate the shelter this season. As the Drop In Center is set to close the shelter and begin distributing camping supplies, Executive Director Lucie Fortier has issued a call for donations.
“The Drop In Center will be accepting used or new tents, sleeping bags, tarps, and camping tools at our building on 60 South Main St.,” she said. “These supplies will directly benefit our friends and neighbors in need.”
