Latchis Arts presents 'Garden Inspirations: Growing Vegetables'™

BRATTLEBORO — Latchis Arts presents “Garden Inspirations: Growing Vegetables,” a day of insights on growing vegetables from three local farmers, as well as acclaimed television personality Roger Swain, known to millions as the host of the popular PBS show “The Victory Garden.”

The event runs Saturday, Jan. 24, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Latchis Theatre.

Local farmers include:

• Jack and Karen Manix, owners of Walker Farm in Dummerston, who will talk about raising vegetables and developing new, niche markets for them;

• Howie Prussack of High Meadow Farm in Putney, whose PowerPoint talk will be on his work with vegetable growers in Nepal, Myanmar and El Salvador;

• Amanda Thurber of Lilac Ridge Farm in Brattleboro, and former Commons food columnist Christopher Coutant, who will talk about growing vegetables and cooking with them.

Roger Swain, “the man with the red suspenders,” recognized by millions as the host of PBS' “The Victory Garden” for 15 years, will speak on and demonstrate the proper use of tools, and will comment on the state of American vegetable gardening.
