Thanksgiving holiday town closures in Brattleboro
BRATTLEBORO - In observance of the Thanksgiving holiday, all Brattleboro town offices will be closed on Thursday and Friday, Nov. 27 and 28, with the exception of emergency services.
Parking is free at all metered spaces and in the pay-and-display lots on Nov. 27 and 28. Parking will resume regular enforcement hours on Saturday, Nov. 29. All other violations, including extended parking, will be enforced.
Brooks Memorial Library will close at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 26, and will be closed on Nov. 27. It will be open for regular hours on Nov. 28 and 29.
Trash, recycling and composting will not be picked up on Nov. 27. Trash, recycling, and composting normally picked up on Thursday will be picked up on Nov. 28.
The BeeLine Bus will not run on Nov. 27. It will resume its normal schedule on Nov. 28.
Annual Thanksgiving dinner to be served at River Garden
BRATTLEBORO - The Brattleboro Community Thanksgiving Dinner will hold its 11th annual celebration at the Robert H. Gibson River Garden at 157 Main St. on Thursday, Nov. 27, from noon to 5 p.m.
This dinner - free for the whole community - will be served buffet-style.
Volunteers are the backbone of the Community Dinner. To help at the River Garden on Thanksgiving morning, either setting up, serving, or cleaning up afterwards, call Katherine Barratt at 802-257-4220.
Extended hours at rink, gym for Thanksgiving recess
BRATTLEBORO - The Nelson Withington Skating Rink is open for public skating from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. on Nov. 25, 26, 27, and 29. The rink is closed Thanksgiving Day.
The open gym and game room are open Nov. 25, 26, 27, and 29 from 1:30 to 5 p.m. for all ages. There is no open gym and game room on Thanksgiving Day. For more information, call the Brattleboro Recreation & Parks Department at 802-254-5808.
SEVCA Crisis Fuel Assistance now available
WESTMINSTER - Southeastern Vermont Community Action's (SEVCA) Crisis Fuel Assistance is now available through approximately mid-March.
To apply, schedule an appointment by calling the nearest SEVCA Outreach Office between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Applicants must bring paystubs or other proof of income, know how much fuel is left in their tank (if oil heat), and provide information about their fuel dealer.
SEVCA may also be able to assist households whose furnaces stop working or are unsafe, with an emergency furnace repair or replacement. This is also the number to call for Crisis Fuel Assistance on weekends and holidays, and for furnace repair or replacement assistance on weekends, holidays, or for after-hours emergencies.
World AIDS Day observed in Brattleboro
BRATTLEBORO - On Monday, Dec. 1, from noon to 1 p.m., the AIDS Project of Southern Vermont will commemorate World AIDS Day at the River Garden on Main Street.
The event will open with a 10-minute candlelight vigil on the sidewalk, followed by a short program of local and international speakers. Music will be provided by the Hallowell singers. Light snacks will be available.
The entire community is invited to honor those affected by HIV/AIDS and those who work to combat AIDS worldwide. For more information, call 802-254-4444.
Students present stories about community at RFPL
BELLOWS FALLS - Join local Community College of Vermont students as they share picture books and read stories exploring the communities of Bellows Falls at the Rockingham Free Public Library on Dec. 2, at 6 p.m.
Children will learn about the neighborhoods where they and their families live and about the things that make their community and neighborhoods unique and special.
The picture books and reading hour are a service learning project organized and facilitated by the students and faculty of Community College of Vermont's Children's Literature course. The stories being shared are ideal for ages 3-8, and of course, older and younger siblings and families are welcome. Light refreshments will be served.

Hospice offers holiday event in BF
BELLOWS FALLS - “Healing through the Holidays,” an event for people who are remembering loved ones who have died, will take place on Thursday, Dec. 4, from 4 to 5:30 p.m., at Parks Place, 44 School St. in Bellows Falls.
This event is free and open to everyone. Participants are invited to bring photos and/or favorite holiday mementos of those they are remembering. First Baptist Church hosts Christmas bazaar
BRATTLEBORO - First Baptist Church, 190 Main St., will hold its annual Christmas Bazaar on Saturday, Dec. 6, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The bazaar will feature baked goods, handcrafts, a corn chowder lunch, new and nearly-new Christmas decorations, paperwhite narcissus bulbs, and a free cookie-decorating table for the children.
