Dummerston Historical Society hosts Roger Katz photography exhibit

DUMMERSTON — When Roger Katz, who died in 2013 at age 65 after a long battle with cancer, he left behind a vast collection of photographs from a lifetime of viewing the world through the lens. His affectionate curiosity about people and places found expression in thousands of striking pictures taken in our area and beyond - his gift to the world.

The Dummerston Historical Society says it is proud to present an exhibit of some 70 of Katz's prints at its Schoolhouse gallery in Dummerston Center, next to the Town Office and Congregational Church.

Curated by photographer Jean Davis and displayed by Society board member Cindy Wilcox, the exhibit has its opening reception Saturday, Oct. 4, from 2 to 4 p.m.

The exhibit also is open during the Apple Pie Festival on Sunday, Oct. 12, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., and can be open by appointment by calling 802-254-2554 or 802-254-9311.

The Society's quarterly meeting and program will feature the exhibit with fellow photographers and friends of Katz in attendance to discuss the man and his work. That program, on Thursday, Oct. 16 at the Schoolhouse, starts at 7:30 p.m. following a business meeting at 7 p.m.

For raffle tickets for a framed landscape photograph of Dummerston's Houpis Pond by Roger Katz, visit the Dummerston Historical Society or the Dummerston Town Office, or call 802-254-9311.

Tickets are $1 each or six for $5. The drawing is at the quarterly meeting on Oct. 16. You need not be present at the drawing to win.

These events are free and open to all.

The Dummerston Historical Society says in its program announcement that, “there is little overlap with the prints shown at the recent exhibit at the Vermont Center for Photography, so even if you attended that exhibit you will find many new pictures to please your eye and to remind yourself of this talented friend and neighbor, taken from us all too soon.”
