BELLOWS FALLS — The Bellows Falls Opera House Classic Film Wednesdays series honors the late Robin Williams this September with four of his unforgettable roles.
“We were able to obtain licenses for these films on short notice,” Opera House manager Rick Angers said. “With the outpouring of love and support for Robin Williams, we felt this was an appropriate way to go for September."
The schedule is:
• Sept. 3 – “Dead Poets Society” (1989) (rated PG)
• Sept. 10 – “Good Morning, Vietnam” (1987) (rated R)
• Sept. 17 – “Jumanji” (1995) (rated PG)
• Sept. 24 – “What Dreams May Come” (1998) (rated PG-13)
Each Wednesday at 7:15 p.m. the Opera House presents a classic film for $5. In August, the films of Robert Redford and Paul Newman were featured, with “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid” and “The Sting” each drawing well over 100 attendees.
The October films are slated to be in the thrills and chills category, with movies chosen by the Friends of the Bellows Falls Opera House Forum, a Facebook group composed of those who donated to the crowd-sourced fundraiser for Classic Films Wednesday earlier this year.
The group raised more than $5,000 - the goal was $3,000 - to keep the series alive after it was threatened with cancellation earlier this year.
November will feature classic film noir.
Live music is also often presented at the Opera House, with British alterna-folk maven Billy Bragg appearing Sept. 20, and Mavis Staples on Nov. 7. Current films, generally featuring things exploding, run Friday through Tuesday.
