BRATTLEBORO — On Tuesday, Feb. 14, at 6:45 p.m., New England Youth Theatre, 100 Flat St., presents “Feel the Loving,” a Valentine's Day-themed evening highlighted by the Brattleboro premiere of the feature film, Loving.
“Feel the Loving,” which also features a dessert bar and other entertainment, is a fundraiser for the Theatre Adventure program, NEYT's acting troupe that celebrates actors of all abilities. Suggested donation is $20 and seating is on a first-come, first-served basis.
Loving stars the Academy Award-nominated Ruth Negga as Mildred Loving, whose interracial marriage to Richard Loving (Joel Edgerton), challenged Virginia's miscegenation laws preventing interracial marriage.
In 1967, the Loving case went all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court and resulted in the overturning of laws nationwide that prevented interracial unions. Both Negga and Edgerton were nominated for Golden Globes for their performances.
In a news release, Hallie Flower, executive director of New England Youth Theatre, said the “Feel the Loving” event is expected to sell out, so advance ticket sales are strongly suggested. Tickets may be purchased at www.neyt.org.
Written and directed by acclaimed filmmaker Jeff Nichols, Loving is rated PG-13.
Theatre Adventure was founded in 2004 by Darlene Jenson and Laura Lawson Tucker for youth and adults with mixed abilities. Theatre Adventure actors learn to claim the stage with distinction and skill while presenting compelling theater.
Today, Theatre Adventure is a supportive, creative, and compassionate community that meets year-round with three public productions annually at West Village Meeting House on South Street in West Brattleboro.
