BMC Performathon benefits local student-musicians

BRATTLEBORO — On Saturday, May 18, music will fill the River Garden as students from the Brattleboro Music Center perform a marathon day of recitals to help raise money for student financial aid during “Performathon.”

From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., music school students, performing as soloists, duos, and ensembles, will present everything from Bach to traditional Celtic music and Broadway show tunes.

The community is invited to enjoy the accomplishments of the Music School's student musicians. The day is presented in one-hour segments, making it easy for audience members to come and go throughout the day.

Each hour will feature a variety of instruments and musical genres.

“Performathon” is an annual event at the BMC, and a time when students share their music to raise money for financial aid so that others can have access to the many benefits of a music education.

Each year, the music school awards more than $20,000 in aid to students and families who need assistance paying for lessons, classes, ensembles and summer programs. The funds raised during “Performathon” are key to helping BMC meet requests for financial aid.

A bake sale, plant sale, 50/50 raffle and, new this year, a used music CD sale will add to the festivities at “Performathon.” Stop by and enjoy the music, indulge in baked goods, shop for plants and music CDs, and try for half the pot in the 50/50 raffle. All proceeds raised during the day go directly to the BMC's Student Financial Aid Fund.

Admission is free and all are welcome. Donations are greatly appreciated.
