Brattleboro American Legion band seeks new members

BRATTLEBORO — If you're a musician of high-school band level or greater, have a positive attitude, and look forward to having fun and making friends, you're invited to join the Brattleboro American Legion Band.

All instruments are welcome. No auditions or try-outs are required.

The renowned 45-strong Brattleboro American Legion Band, known for its expert and entertaining parade marching, has entertained audiences in Brattleboro and environs, all over New England, and in New York for more than 20 years.

The band plays a wide variety of music, including marches, patriotic tunes, blues, jazz, and classical.

Rehearsal is on Wednesdays from 7 to 9 p.m. (no rehearsal on the third Wednesday of the month) at Legion Post 5 on Linden Street from 7 to 9 p.m.

The band participates in approximately 10 parades, three formal concerts, and several outdoor summer concerts every year. These performances pay the band's bills, including uniforms, travel expenses, and its annual trip to the National Legion Convention, where it competes against other bands.

Members are expected to participate in as many of these performances as possible.

According to a band spokesman, membership grows every year. Many members have been with the band since its founding in 1990. This year, members' ages range from 12 through the 80s.

The Brattleboro American Legion Band is investigating competing nationally at a summer 2015 event in Baltimore, Md., and placed second at its most recent competition, in Salt Lake City.
