BRATTLEBORO — On Sunday, June 10, the Brattleboro Bike Revolution (BBR) will hold the first in a series of rides and workshops to help residents learn to ride a bike for transportation.
BBR will be offering an overview of basic bike maintenance, tips on riding safely, and a celebratory ride. Its aim is to create community, encourage skill-sharing, and help boost the level of competence, confidence, and comfort for bike riders of all types. It is encouraging novice, intermediate, and highly experienced riders to come together and share in the satisfaction and excitement of bike transport.
BBR envisions placing Brattleboro on the map as one of the finest biking towns in the nation, with safer and more welcoming streets, healthier residents, greater transportation independence for kids, and an infrastructure that matches what Vermonters really want for supporting all forms of human-powered transport for all age groups.
Founded by Brattleboro residents and psychotherapists Dave Cohen and Phil Brubaker, BBR has already hosted a winter biking workshop and a New Years' bike ride celebration. In the near future, they are planning to offer other programs to help residents get the most out of their bikes – how to shop by bike, riding the hills, cycling in inclement weather, and more.
BBR also envisions promoting the new generation of bikes that include electric-assist motors and a capability of carrying the children and the groceries, thereby extending range, carrying capacity, and comfort for bicyclists.
