GRAFTON — Grafton Ponds Outdoor Center has added a new twist on summer camps this year by offering a Big Kids Camp for adults.
Grafton Ponds is known for its summer week-long day camps for children aged 5 through 16. Now Big Kids Camps will be offered in conjunction with children's summer camps, which run from June 25 through Aug. 3.
Big Kids Camps are offered to adults Tuesday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and include mountain biking, swimming, canoe trips, hiking, biathlon, low ropes course, and blacksmithing. Courses will be led by Grafton Ponds Director Bill Salmon, who said he recognizes the need for adults to have fun in the summer. He led similar camps in Smugglers Notch during his tenure with the Vermont resort.
The cost for the Grafton Ponds Big Kids Camp is $150 per week and includes daily lunch and rental equipment.
“Every year when we have summer camp, not a day goes by without a parent saying, 'I wish I could go to summer camp too,' so we finally decided to create a program for them,” said Salmon.
“The three-day camps give adults a taste of the fun summer life that kids experience. We've already seen a lot of interest for it just by word of mouth.”
Reservations can be made by visiting GraftonPonds.com or calling 802-843-2400. The Grafton Inn is offering special lodging deals on its rental homes for families who have children attending summer camps. Information can be found at GraftonInnVermont.com.
