Paving projects in Brattleboro set to begin

BRATTLEBORO-The Vermont Agency of Transportation (AOT) is set to begin multiple paving projects scheduled to take place in Brattleboro and from Brattleboro to Putney over the 2025 and 2026 construction seasons.

Work will be done on Vermont Route 142, Vermont Route 9, Vermont Route 30, and U.S. Route 5. The majority of the work has been scheduled to occur during typical nighttime hours to minimize the impacts to traffic. Further description of the location and work is detailed below:

• U.S. 5: The project begins at the intersection with Generous and Canal streets, and extends to the Vermont Avenue intersection.

• VT 9: The project begins at the intersection of Edward Heights and Marlboro Road, and extends to the intersection with U.S. 5 at the traffic signal at Main and High streets.

• VT 30: The project begins at the junction of U.S. 5 and VT 30 at the intersection of Main and Linden streets, and follows VT 30 to approximately the intersection with Cedar Street.

• VT 142: The project begins at the "State Highway Begins" sign just south of the railroad tracks near Riverside Drive and follows VT 142 to the intersection with U.S. 5 at the Main Street traffic signal.

According to the AOT, work on these projects includes coarse milling (grinding off the top layers of pavement) to a depth of 2 inches and paving a half-inch leveling course and then a 1 1/2 inch top course of asphalt. Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)evaluation of sidewalk and pedestrian crossings, sign replacement, and drainage work are also planned as a part of these projects.

Paving work is also planned for an eight-mile stretch of U.S. 5 from Vermont Avenue in Brattleboro to just north of the Putney Landing Road intersection in Putney. Work will also take place within the Exit 3 roundabout and from the roundabout to the New Hampshire state line on VT 9.

Work on this project includes coarse milling to a depth of 2 inches and paving a half-inch leveling course and then a 1 1/2-inch top course of asphalt. Guardrail repair and replacement, centerline rumble strip installation, berm removal, and other highway related items are also planned.
