BELLOWS FALLS-Vermont Adult Learning (VAL), in partnership with the Rockingham Free Public Library, is launching a free English Language Learner (ELL) class designed to empower adult learners in the community.
These ongoing classes are being held Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 4 to 5:30 p.m., on the second floor of the library, located at 65 Westminster St.
The multi-level ELL class is open to Vermont residents aged 16 and above, regardless of their current English proficiency. Beginners as well as those seeking to refine advanced skills will find a supportive and engaging learning environment focused on practical speaking and pronunciation.
"This partnership with Rockingham Library allows us to extend vital language resources directly into the community," Matthew Bentley, VAL's regional director of Windham County, said in a news release. "By fostering lifelong learning and community connection, we're empowering individuals to thrive."
Key features of the ELL class include:
• Diverse proficiency levels: Collaborative learning experience with students of varying English skills.
• Varied backgrounds: Embracing cultural and linguistic diversity.
• Focus on communication: Practicing skills for real-world interactions.
• Thematic instruction: Engaging in themes related to daily life, work, and health.
• Interactive activities: Offering group discussions, role-playing, pair work, and games.
• Vocabulary and grammar instruction: Receiving targeted instruction for language foundation.
Registration and a brief assessment are required. Vermont residents over 16 who are not enrolled in public school are eligible. Call or text VAL at 802-275-4080, or arrive early to register on-site.
