Juventas New Music Ensemble presents 'Sounds of New England'

BRATTLEBORO-Boston-based Juventas New Music Ensemble presents "Sounds of New England: Music Inspired by Places We Call Home." This program features compositions inspired by natural places in each of the five New England States, from the White Mountains of New Hampshire to the lighthouses of Rhode Island.

The concert is set for Saturday, Feb. 8, at 7 p.m. at the Brattleboro Music Center.

The program includes Stacy Garrop's "Beacon of the Bay," Oliver Caplan's "In the Direction of Dreams," Rachel Panitch's "Sand and Snow," Jason Cain's "Granite Peaks at Sunset," and Gwyneth Walker's "Craftsbury Trio."

Performers are Celine Ferro, clarinet; Ryan Shannon, violin; Matthew Smith, cello; and Julia Scott Carey, piano.

Members of Juventas New Music Ensemble describe themselves in a mission statement on their website as "a dynamic contemporary chamber group with a special focus on emerging voices. It reimagines classical music as a vibrant living art form, uplifting rising voices and bringing audiences music from a diverse array of composers that live in today's world and respond to our time."

They say their concerts center on the human experience, featuring deeply personal music that fosters conversation and reflection.

The group's work has been recognized with multiple American Prize wins and support from the National Endowment for the Arts, the Massachusetts Cultural Council, New Music USA, and the Boston Foundation. Juventas has been featured on over a dozen recording projects, including albums from Albany Records, Navona, New Dynamic, and RMN Classical.

Tickets are $20 for advance general admission and $25 at the door, available at bmcvt.org, 802-257-4523, or [email protected].
