WEST BRATTLEBORO-In the legacy of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., All Souls Church, Unitarian Universalists, and the Windham County Vermont NAACP will host a Justice Soup Supper and Community Sing on Friday, Jan. 17, at 5:30 p.m. at West Village Meetinghouse, 29 South St.
The gathered community is invited to share a meal together, witness part of King's last speech in Memphis in April 1968 - "I've Been to the Mountaintop" - and sing spirituals and justice songs together.
There is no charge for the event, but a free-will offering will be collected to support the Root Social Justice Center, a Vermont-based, Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) led racial justice organization centering on Blackness. The Root prioritizes BIPOC people and their communities by shifting resources to BIPOC for leadership, connection, healing, education, and the arts and supports BIPOC-led racial justice movement work.
The Windham County Vermont Branch of the NAACP is dedicated to serving the needs and promoting the social, economic, political, and interpersonal power of people of color and their allies living in our county.
