Sarasa Ensemble looks 'East-West' at BMC

BRATTLEBORO-The Sarasa Ensemble looks "East-West" in a performance Friday, Nov. 15, at the Brattleboro Music Center.

The 7 p.m. performance will feature Elicia Silverstein, Rebecca Nelson, Danilo Bonina, violins; Jenny Stirling, viola; Jennifer Morsches, Timothy Merton, cellos; and John McKean, harpsichord.

Composers of the Occident gladly soaked up the sounds of the near Orient and let it influence their music. This evening program will spotlight works that feature Eastern traditions influencing a wide swath of Europe in a potpourri of Baroque and 20th-century music, including works by Lully, Rameau, Ali Ufkî Bey, Biber, Bartòk, Kodály, and Vivaldi.

The Sarasa Ensemble is a collective group of international instrumentalists and vocalists who perform classical music spanning the 17th to the 21st centuries, on both period and modern instruments, and bring this music to diverse communities

Tickets are $20 for advance general admission, $25 at the door, and are available at bmcvt.org, by calling 802-257-4523, or emailing [email protected].
