Celebration marks completion of stone arch bridge restoration project

WEST TOWNSHEND-The Townshend Selectboard and Townshend Historical Society extend a cordial invitation to celebrate the completion of West Townshend Stone Arch Bridge Restoration Project and the official re-opening of the bridge on Sunday, Nov. 3.

The events will start with a brief Annual Meeting of the Townshend Historical Society at 1 p.m. at the West Townshend Country Store, 6579 VT Route 30.

At 1:30 p.m., there will be a guided tour of the bridge, which is just off Route 30 on the Back Windham Road, followed at 2 p.m. by a ribbon-cutting ceremony. Afterward, Contractor Brian Post of Standing Stone LLC will give a presentation at the West Townshend Country Store about his team's work to restore bridge, built in 1910 by Townshend resident James Otis Follett.

The project was supported by the voters of Townshend; by a Save America's Treasures Grant of Congressionally designated funds secured by U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., and administered by the National Park Service; by a Vermont Division for Historic Preservation 2024 Preservation Grant; and by many generous individual donors.
