PUTNEY-"Paintings," an exhibition of paintings and drawings by Jonathan Flaccus, is currently on exhibit at the Putney Public Library through Nov. 30. There will be an opening reception on Saturday, Oct. 5, at 1 p.m.
"My husband, Jonathan Flaccus (1940–2019), was a prolific artist and photographer; although he is probably better known as the owner of The Unique Antique on Main Street in Putney," Marcy Hermansader writes in a news release. "He rarely exhibited his work and had no interest in a career; he worked purely for the pleasure of doing so. Nancy Storrow and I chose these drawings and paintings so that people could discover his work."
Ten paintings and drawings are on exhibit, ranging from depictions of iconic local settings - "Dogman" and "Car in Woods," - to richly colored abstractions. All have an openness, freedom, and honesty of gesture. The work is for sale by donation to the library with a $50 minimum.
The exhibit can be viewed during regular library hours: Monday through Friday, 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturday 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in September and October, and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in November.
