Soles of Duende will take the Bandwagon Summer Stage

PUTNEY-The Next Stage Bandwagon Summer Series presents dance trio Soles of Duende on Saturday, Aug. 24, at 6 p.m. at The Putney Inn, 57 Putney Landing Rd.

A Brooklyn-born Puerto Rican from New Haven, a Mexican Puerto Rican Jew from the Lower East Side, and a Bengali Indian from Jersey walked onto the wooden floor, and the rest? History. "Bonded by their deep love of music, their crafts, and true connection," write organizers in a news release, "Soles of Duende is on a lifelong mission to elevate the joy and music of true collaboration across disciplines and the celebration of the forms they practice."

The three women of Soles of Duende contribute musical influences and sounds of tap dancing (Amanda Castro), flamenco (Arielle Rosales), and Kathak - a form of classical Indian dance (Brinda Guha).

"Live music meets dance from three different ethnic traditions sounds like a perfect way of exploring culture while seeing virtuosic talent," Keith Marks, executive director of Next Stage Arts, said in a news release. "This group has been getting a lot of attention in New York, and while they're on the rise, we wanted to bring them to southern Vermont. There is so much about Soles of Duende that deserves attention - talent, merging of dance and live music, and the fact that these women are exploring connections of culture through dance is worth noting."

Tickets are $20 in advance, $25 at the gate, and kids under 12 get in free. Advance tickets are available online at nextstagearts.org. Refreshments are sold onsite, or bring a picnic and a blanket or fold-up chair to enjoy the concert. For more information, call 802-387-0102.
