VERNON-A newly enacted state law - Act 122 - will likely be used to make fossil fuels the ultimate cause of our "climate damage."
No substitute on a large-enough scale exists. Renewable solar and wind farms cover massive tracts of land and also need - Oh, my! - fossil-fuel power generation at times! A nuclear backup in Vernon is now being removed.
Our power companies will work through rain and flooding, no matter whether we call it "heavy weather" or "climate change."
Blame the power providers, and all of us will pay more for our power! That's how our free economy works, but we'll see inflation affect everything else we use or need.
Criticize and punish, and then we may lose something we need.
It's not the time to debate the causes of climate damage here and who is to blame for it. But the discussions will begin, and Vermont, as a leader in this strategy to bill fossil-fuel companies, will be very much involved.
