PUTNEY-Next Stage Arts and Twilight Music present an evening of folk, roots, and Americana music by California-based trio Rainbow Girls at Next Stage on Thursday, August 15, at 7:00 pm. Children of Divorce opens.
Rainbow Girls is an eclectic folk trio hailing from just north of California's Bay Area: Vanessa May, Erin Chapin, and Caitlin Gowdey. Throughout their performance, "voices are paired with an ever-changing amalgamation of acoustic and slide guitar, keys, upright bass, harmonica, and an array of vocal techniques creating an engaging and emotionally moving live show," say organizers.
Originally formed in Santa Barbara in 2010, the Rainbow Girls have busked on the streets of Europe, played pubs and theaters in the UK, and house concerts, festivals, and shows in the U.S. They've released four albums of music that they say delve deeply into themes of the human experience: hopeful love, honest self-reflection, and pursuits of social justice.
Children of Divorce is what happens when you get together "three femme songwriters who love Taylor Swift and Harry Styles," say organizers. Genevieve Glimp, Finn O'Sullivan, and Katie Yeager met while studying music in college and found that they all liked singing about "queer love, shitty men, and the objects of their fandoms."
Next Stage is at 15 Kimball Hill in downtown Putney. Tickets are $22 advance, $25 at the door, and $10 for access to the livestream. For information, call 802-387-0102. Advance tickets are available at nextstagearts.org. Next Stage will provide a beer, wine, and cocktail cash bar.
