Eastes: a longtime Democrat and a strong leader

GUILFORD-Fellow citizens of Guilford and Vernon: Vote on or before Aug. 13 in the Democratic primary. I urge all Democrats in Vernon and Guilford to be aware of the nature of this especially crucial election.

Zon Eastes's opponent, Jason Herron, has never participated in any Democratic function and admits that he is running as a Democrat simply because many voters in our district are Democrats.

I have much respect for and admiration of many Republicans in my community and family, and yet, this reasoning seems suspicious to me. Were he to win the primary, he would be running against a Republican opponent with whom he actively worked in 2022.

Really?

Zon, on the other hand, is a longtime Democrat and an excellent candidate to boot. He will represent us well in Montpelier. Following the stellar example set by Sara Coffey, Zon will work to represent all constituents of both towns.

He is a good and a thoughtful listener. He is articulate and knows how to turn ideas into actions. He collaborates effectively with others. He has demonstrated all these skills and more in his service to many organizations locally.

Zon is serving as chair of Guilford's Selectboard, where he works hard to deal fairly and openly with any and all issues. He has managed to complete very important work while, at the same time, demonstrating strong leadership in the face of two (ultimately dismissed) lawsuits filed by Jason Herron against the town.

There is one clear choice in this primary election. Zon Eastes will serve in Montpelier with honor and integrity.
