BRATTLEBORO-Emilie Kornheiser, District 7 representative, has earned support for reelection to the Statehouse.
Our town and county have long benefited from delegations of competent, caring, and energetic elected officials. Windham County has historically been an influencer in Vermont government, and Kornheiser is a standout among her legislative peers.
In a short time in Montpelier, she has emerged as an effective and respected leader. She chairs the powerful House Ways and Means Committee, giving Windham an influential role in state government. Her peers recognize her thoughtfulness and her irrepressible work ethic.
Like those of U.S. Rep. Becca Balint and U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders, her legislative priorities reflect her constituents' concerns, including affordable housing, support for public education, and tax fairness in service of our quality of life.
Most recently, she played an instrumental role shepherding the landmark legislation requiring corporations who pollute to compensate Vermonters for damages.
Shouldn't housing be a right? Shouldn't everyone pay their fair share of taxes? Shouldn't polluters be held accountable? Common sense is social justice.
On the local level, when the Brattleboro Police Department exposed an active drug house in our community, Kornheiser and other town leaders assisted our Safe Neighborhoods committee with ideas and access to resources in our two-year effort to restore and protect our little corner of town.
George Bernard Shaw long ago said, "Some people see the world as it is and ask, 'Why?' I see the world as it could be and say, 'Why not?'"
Emilie Kornheiser dares to envision a more welcoming and prosperous state that strives to meet the needs of all its citizens, which perfectly reflects the best traditions of public service in Vermont.
Kornheiser is facing a primary challenger. Please support her as an incumbent in the Democratic primary on Aug. 13.
